Privacy Policy

Draft — not yet reviewed by a lawyer. This describes accurately what the software currently does with data, written from the implementation itself. It is not legal advice and has not been checked against GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA or any other regime. Have a solicitor review it before relying on it with real users.

Recede records the jobs you apply for and tracks whether employers respond. This page explains exactly what it stores, where, and who can see it.

We do not collect payment details, browsing history outside the app, or contacts.

Location

Two things influence the location on your profile, and neither sends a coordinate anywhere.

Your timezone is read from the browser to suggest a country when your location is blank. It is a passive read of a setting your browser already exposes to every website; nothing is requested and no prompt appears.
"Use my location" asks your browser for GPS coordinates only when you tap it. The coordinates are compared against a list of cities held inside the app on your device, and discarded immediately. What is stored is a city name — the same value you could have typed — and you can edit or delete it. Your coordinates are never transmitted to us or to any geocoding service.

Location is used to rank roles you could realistically take. Decline it, or clear the field, and the app keeps working — matches are simply less targeted.

Where it is stored

In a Supabase project hosted in the EU (Ireland). Every table uses PostgreSQL row level security: a database policy checks your user ID on every read and write, so one account cannot query another's rows even if the application code were faulty.

CVs live in a private storage bucket under a path keyed to your user ID. There is no public link. The application requests a signed URL valid for five minutes when you open your own file.

Who can see your data

By default, only you. Your applications, profile, CV and documents are visible to your account alone.

There is one exception, and it is opt-in. If you enable "Share my outcomes" in Settings, your applications contribute to the accountability score shown on company pages. What that shares:

Shared: the company name, the outcome (no reply / rejected / interview / offer), and how long the response took.
Never shared: your name, email, job title, CV, salary, work history, or anything else in your account.

Even then, other users only ever see aggregate counts — never an individual record, and never anything identifying you. This is enforced in the database, not just the interface: the function that produces those aggregates returns counts only, includes a user solely when they have opted in, and excludes the requester's own rows.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Applications to employers

Recede never contacts an employer on your behalf. It drafts an application letter from your profile; sending it is always your own action, from your own email or through the employer's own form. No employer receives anything from us.

Third parties

Supabase — database, authentication and file storage (EU region).
Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google. We receive your name, email and profile picture; we request no other access.
Netlify — serves the application files. Standard web server logs.

Job listings are collected from employers' own public career-board feeds and from public job aggregators. No personal data of yours is sent to any of them.

Your rights over your data

See it — everything held about you is visible in the app.
Correct it — edit your profile and documents at any time.
Delete it — delete individual applications in the app. To remove your account entirely, email us; deletion cascades, removing your profile, applications, documents and CV.
Stop sharing — turn off "Share my outcomes" in Settings at any time. Your data stops contributing to aggregate scores from that moment.

Retention

Your data is kept while your account exists. Delete the account and it is removed. A replaced CV is deleted from storage when the new one is uploaded.
